An unnamed Chelsea footballer has failed a drugs test this morning, and could be banned from football for up to 2 years. The representatives of the footballer have asked for privacy and protection of his name until his punishment has been given. Goal FM news correspondent Natasha Rowley was at Cobham this morning with the latest.
NR: This morning at Cobham, Chelsea's training ground, one of the teams first team members took part in an unannounced drugs test, alongside 6 of his team mates. We do not yet have the names of those who were tested today, but it won't be long till the names are made public. As for the guilty player, he is almost certainly set for a long spell out of the game, and will also face a large amount of criticism. This is Natasha Rowley at Cobham, for Goal FM news.
This news story is a good news story for my radio station because my show is sports based, and therefore it is very likely that the target audience are likely to want to hear about sports stories. However, what is also good about this story is that it has a dramatical and very serious element to it. This is a breaking news story and will be of interest to my target audience because it is a story that will have severe consequences on the sport.

News Story 2
A cyclist has been killed in Finchley after being involved in a car crash. The collision happened on Finchley High Road and is the third death involving a cyclist on that road this year. An inquest has been called for by the MP for Finchley and Golders Green, Mike Greer, in order to find a solution to the number of collisions occurring in London each year. Mr Greer spoke to the House of Commons this morning.
MG: The safety of road cyclists is a problem, and not just in my constituency, but all over London. It is my duty to get to the bottom of this problem, along with the Mayor of London. We would both agree that the future for cyclists still remains on the road, as it is an excellent alternative to driving a vehicle *heer heer*.
This news story is a good news story for my radio station because, although it is a sports station, and the target audience are all listening to the show because of the quality of sports coverage the station offers. However, as my radio show is a London based sports station, it is also important for the station to include news stories that are likely to affect my target audience, even if they are not sports based. Therefore, the story is perfect for my news bulletin because it meets the requirements of a non-sports based news story; it is likely to effect a number of listeners.

A lifelong Barnet FC fan has left the club with an unexpected surprise; an £800,000 cheque in his will, after he died 4 weeks ago. Barry Small, 82, had been following the club, and going to games regularly since 1935, at the tender age of 3. It is believed that Barnet FC are in the process of creating a memorial to Barry at The Hive, their stadium. Anthony Kleanthous, chairmen of Barnet, spoke to Goal FM about it this afternoon.
AK: Barnet FC is a huge family club, with a wonderful set of supporters that continue to set the example of what an excellent club we strive to be. Barry Small was as typical Barnet fan as you could get, and his donation willl be greatfully accepted, and will make a significant contribution to maintaining the future of this club.
This news story is a good news story for my radio station because it is a very odd story, but is one that highlights the importance of sport, and in particular, football clubs, to its fans. The story shows how much of an effect football can have on people, and is a story that will be of interest to my target audience because it is a sports based story, which is also a local based story, and is one that effects a great deal of my target audience, especially Barnet fans.

News Story 4
Arsenal celebrated their first Premier League title today with an open top bus parade in Islington, but last night Arsenal pair Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Carl Jenkinson were filmed busking in Soho during their celebrations by a member of the public. The pair, which saw an unnamed person play a guitar, performed renditions of Queen's 'We are the Champions' and Oasis' 'Wonderwall'. The footage has already amassed over 3 million views on YouTube. According to the pairs Twitter accounts, it is believed they managed to raise over £1000 on the night which is believed to be donated to the Arsenal Foundation, who help motivate children through education and sport. Alex tweeted his tanks to everyone who donated, and that it was going to a great cause. The Arsenal players and staff are known for giving a days wages to the Arsenal Foundation every year.
This news story is a good news story for my radio station because it is a football related story and my target audience are predominantly football fans. Also, this is a news story that fits my stations criteria as a local radio station, as Arsenal is a local team in London.
News Story 5
At the parade today in Islington, reporter Darren Graham was able to get a few words off of Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen, who spoke of his delight at winning his first Premier League winners medal.
TV: "It's an unbelievable day. This season has been a real roller-coaster for the team, and for me personally. The fans... they have stood by us even when we have lost, which thankfully didn't happen too often. This is really for them because they have gone a long time without a trophy, but we have done it for them, and as a player there is nothing better than this."
This news story is a good news story for my radio station because, like the previous story (which it is related too), it is a football related story and my target audience are predominantly football fans. Also, this is a news story that fits my stations criteria as a local radio station, as Arsenal is a local team in London. Also, audiences enjoy hearing the opinions of footballers so for there to have been an interview of the captain of the champions is a big thing for my audience, and is something that would be enjoyed.
